Beautiful dresses complete with dainty pleats, frills and gorgeous lace were worn to tea. These dresses took hours to iron. Proper dress also included hats and gloves for each girl. In these times, grown-ups and children usually took tea separately. Although teatime was a serious event, sometimes there were games, music, stories and lots of fun.
